Different Types of Radar Detectors

If you have decided to invest in a radar detector there are some things that you may want to consider when it comes to purchasing a radar detector. First you want to check your state first and see if there are any laws that prohibit the use of radar detectors. Then you should make a list of features that you want on it and how much money you want to spend on it as well.

There are three different types of radar detectors. The first type is the Remote Mounted Radar Detectors, Corded Detectors and Cordless Detectors. The first type is the Remote Mounted Radar Detectors, these detectors are illegal in some states but some people have them anyway. The disadvantages of these detectors are that they cost more than the others. The Escort Series of radar detectors and the Beltronics Series use remote mounted antenna mounts behind the grill and two remote lasers behind on in the front and one in the rear.

If you do decide on a remote radar detector then you should have a professional install them. These detectors come with an Install Card. The install card is a prepaid card that lets you take the detector to some installers and they will install them for free. Not every company does this so if you want to make sure that you get a free install then ask the distributor.

The next choice is a Corded Detector; these are the most popular detectors. They can be plugged into the car’s cigarette lighter or right into the fuse box and then finally mounted on the windshield or dashboard. These corded detectors will use a number of advantages over those remote mounted detectors such as they are easy to install and they don’t require a professional.

They have the capacity to detect the entire band from most radar detectors that law enforcement uses such as the POP Radar. The corded units do not need batteries so you can save some money replacing batteries as well.

Then you have the cordless radar detectors, these detectors sound like they would be better than corded detectors but many people don’t agree. They believe that corded detectors may be the best choice. When you use a cordless detector the batteries maybe last three weeks then you will have to replace them.

You may end up losing range with a cordless model. Then they would not be effective but on the other hand they can detect the POP radars, which are being more frequently used by law enforcement.

Every one has their own opinion on which style of radar detector to use. Most manufacturers will offer all three styles and you can pick which one you want.  You should decide before shopping around what style you want to use this way you can narrow down your shopping.  The goal is to prevent you from getting a speeding ticket.  Find the model that can do it with the least amount of money being spent.
